Does anyone have personal experience having gone thru the HD LongBlock engine purchase? First, the price seems to be about the same as a crate engine. If I take my 2000 Springer to a Harley Stealership to have the engine sent off, will I get a fully operational bike? Or will I get a basket case? Their add states that the LongBlock case does not include cam shafts, lower and upper rocket boxes, and cam cover. Is that how my bike would be returned to me, with those parts missing? Or would the Harley-Dealer remove those parts from my existing engine and install them on the LongBlock, or would that be up to me? They are not clear on that. And lastly, why do they call it a "LongBlock?"
Most people would replace those "missing" items with new ,higher performance parts. Me personally I would not spend my money on a new HD engine...why buy new and still have all the weak links in it? Go aftermarket or find a reputable indy or even contact one of the great builders on here and have your original motor custom built to your wants and needs. You'll definitely get better results and you'll probably spend less money.
Tough audience here. Can't make a simple faux pax without getting slammed. Instead of focusing on the right answers, you all would rather issue derisive comments. Although I trust the word of HD dealerships, it is a simple and known fact that dealers are simply way too expensive when compared to indys. Serves me right, I should not have come here for help. And Mr. Scudda, no I am not a troll. I live in Beaumont, Ca. and own two bikes, a 2006 Heritage Classic and a 2000 Springer. I have been riding motorcycles for over 55 years. I am a 71 year old retired law enforcement sergeant of 29 years, five years reserve police officer (LAPD), 4 years Navy (U.S.S. Oklahoma City), 4 years Coast Guard Reserve (Port Hueneme, Ca.), 2 years Navy Reserve (Long Beach, Ca.). How do you stack up in serving this nation? I may be soft in my loafers, but calling me a troll? I just can't understand where you are coming from. It does seem this is the wrong place to seek information. Enough said. I have to go cool off now!!

When someones makes a post asking a question about Dealerships and their work and pricing and then calls them calls them "Stealerships" they/you lose any kind of respect for a legitimate answer in my book.
This has nothing to do with if you serve this country as you said or not. I don't even know why you brought that up....makes no difference.
