Default 2013 ABS problem

Hi all.
so 08-11 was recalled got it Harleys fix brake fluid flush
my 2013 RG just started messing up- nope- never changed the fluid.
So I did last night. Today. A bit better but front lever still locks occasionally. Tapping on module frees it up.

Think it may work itself clean? $600.00 for used that may be no good.

got the fittings to just illuminate the mod all together. Thoughts- ideas- solutions??

It's a toss up. You might get lucky by doing a flush that actually flushes the abs unit along with the rest of the brake system or...you might make it lock up completely and cost you time and money. I see you're in Massachusetts so time isn't on our side up this way as far as remaining riding time. Personally I wouldn't buy anything that my life depended on used or a cheap aftermarket knock off. Maybe get a unit from infotechmercenary.com. It's under 200 bucks and activates the abs unit while doing the flush. There are other tools out there some are pretty pricey but they also do other stuff...but the itm pays for itself im the first use compared to taking it to the dealer. You can eliminate the system, theres a thread around here somewhere. I don't think I would do that either, possible insurance/legal issues are possible if you're involved in an accident...maybe...possibly. Maybe just bypass it until winter then fix it when time and or money is more abundant.

Did you use an abs scan/flush tool? If not, you did not flush the abs unit using a regular brake bleed technique. Several brands out there. I personally use the Twin Scan 4 system for mine.

1. If you only changed and bled the fluid, no it will not work itself clean, you have not flushed the fluid out of the ABS unit.

2. Poor maintenance and not following the recommended service provided in the owners manual may have life changing consequeze for you and/or your loved ones.

3. If you flush the brakes and have the ABS unit functioned at the dealer or buy a unit that functions the ABS to flush the fluids, maybe it will work itself clean - maybe

4. Or maybe when the dealer or purchased unit functions your ABS to flush the fluid, it will lock up the ABS and not be recoverable.

5. It is on you to decide the course of action. Good Luck.

screamn’ just checked that site — thanks
$179.00. Not bad. I do have a friend with the software so I got to speak to him first, maybe have him try it first before I buy the software. Thank you very much for that lead and that tip very good to know.

How many times do we have to make it clear. You can not avoid cycling the ABS to flush it out. There is no trick no short cut no work around.

There is a few YouTube videos on these taken apart. The original ones had tolerance issues and inferior material that corroded.

I personally would replace it. Do the You Tube and see what it looks like after the corrosion swelling.

And don't buy used. A new one is $676.

Looks like the unit is available at the Dealer, don't know how long the lead time is for getting one. Not inexpensive though.

Depending on your friend's device, it may not function on your bike due to licensing. Some, but not all devices require the purchase of a multi bike license in order to service more than one bike.
