Default Oh ****

Not a problem I do that a lot.
But this one made me do an OH **** WTF.
I knew there was a fuse blown. It was blown when checking wiring for the AMP I put in. Inadvertently a wire tester touched
the cigarette lighter and popped the fuse. Ok simple fix find and replace fuse.
So I says to myself, self, while you have the fuse box pulled off why not pull all fuses and clean and lube the fuses and while
you're at it clean the battery terminals. Self agreed.
So I get the power turned off on the bike pulled main fuse, disconnected battery and went to cleaning

I got every fuse and resistor cleaned and the battery terminals cleaned. everything back together battery hooked up main fuse put in
And I go to start it. OH **** WTF. I have a dead go switch. So I try it a couple more times maybe a fluke or something
Nope that ain't no fluke you did somepin wrong. Hence the road name Wrongway LOL
So I go back and pull the fuse cover and its like it popped right out at me. I had put a resistor back just a bit higher and the top
prongs were riding in the wrong fuse holes. Moved the resistor down a notch and tried the go switch again
The ol girl showed her check engine light the fuel pump hummed and she came to life
And yes the bad fuse was replaced

Now battery maintenance. I was considering replacing the battery. I would crank her over and a definite lag in the starter
I was mentally saying that ain't right. But when I went to connect the AMP wires to the battery and I tightened them down
a week and half ago I noticed that when I pushed the go switch the ol girl jumped to life no lagging in the starter
So with that I figured go ahead and clean up the leads and the terminals and put some electric grease on everything
So just a reminder check battery connections before deciding to jump into a new battery.

BTW if you need fuses check out Harbor Freight. I know some of ya say they sell junk. But they do sell fuses
They have a pack with 10 each of all the small AMP fuses for 8.99
Walmart selling Eaton brand 6 or so fuses for 5.97
In this screwed up economy we need all the help we can get.

They do sell fuses... Junk fuses.

Eaton, while more expensive, will be more accurate to current.

I would pass on th HF fuses. I’ve seen several times where a 10amp HF fuse won’t blow even with 30 amps running through it. Wires getting hot. Just sayin, how much is your bike worth to cheap out on fuses. A burnt up wiring harness would be a mess.

A friend was helping me set up the AMP I bought and he touched the cigarette lighter wires with the wire tester
He told me about it, said I just popped your lighter fuse. I told him my hearing sucks and I didn't hear anything LOL
So I had to change the fuse Thought I would give the HF a try since I was there.
Figure since I have them in an emergency at least ya got something
Hey it's not like I'm wrapping aluminum foil around the prongs LOL
What gets me is fuses used to be a couple bucks
Seems to me society is 10 dollaring us to death.
Hell I went to burger king yesterday 2 whoppers 2 fries 1 kids hamburger 20.16
And it wasn't a meal fit for a king either LOL

(emphasis mine)
The absolute fastest and CHEAPEST resolution of that starter lag I've ever found is to go over the GROUNDS. Clean,em up, clean the contact point(s) and snug'em down. Just went through this on my own bike ( '85 FXRS) and like you...problem went away.
It's not just what some of us say...HF really does sell junk, but SOMETIMES junk is good enough, so I get it. That said...Something that controls the current flow throughout my bike isn't a great place to try to save enough money for that extra BK hamburger.
BTW: What is a AMP..??
Best wishes, Ride safe, and Go Big Orange.

Picture me with my 02 sensor saga. Your computer is always trying to compensate for those 02 readings and I had one sensor that wasn't reading like it was supposed to.

Amplifier for the new head set I put in. I had that original Harley non bluetooth wire to phone squawk box radio thing when I got the bike.
I put 6x9s in the bags and 6.5 inch speakers in the fairing hooked the JVC headset and replaced the thing Harley was calling a radio
You ain't gonna believe it but I ain't a sports fan. I do know who you're talking about tho I can't believe more people in Tennessee rally for Alabama. Can't even support their home team I moved to Tennessee from California we have the Chargers and LA Lambs out there and everyone rallied for their home team

Oh… OK, AMPlifier for sound system.
Got it. I’m far too low tech for all that. When I want sound on my ‘85 FXR, I just sing..🤣😊.
I was blessed to spend 20 years in Big Orange Country between Knoxville and Nashville. Love the place, but it don’t have an ocean.
