ABS Trouble Code Help Needed!! U1040 (Lost Communication with ABS Module)
Over the winter I threw some bars, a sound system with an amp, and a new Rockford PMX head unit in my 2013 Ultra limited. After the snow melted I found myself with a heap of issues and no cruise control. The bike would start and stall and would constantly show DTC U1040 (lost comm with ABS module). After several weeks of trying to address the ABS issue, I threw on a new ECM, and ABS module and still had no luck. After a bit more searching, I removed the Serial data wire from the head unit, and presto, I now have a bike that runs properly, and the cruise control works again.
Heres the weird part now. I am still getting the U1040 code during each ride. The other trouble codes that were causing the stalling are now gone. I have cleared it several times and it U1040 keeps coming back. I have no abs light on. My gauges are all working fine, my cruise is working without a hiccup, no check engine light etc. To my understanding this code should prevent the cruise from activating altogether. Does anyone know any reason for this code to be showing with no other associated issues? I also noticed my FP3 does not bring this code up on its search, its only on the bike dash diagnostics where I find this. I assume if I had a speed sensor or brake switch failing, I should see other fault codes with it as well as the abs light staying on. The ABS light turns off once the bike starts to roll as it should.
I am curious if I am possibly getting some interference from the amp in the fairing. Does anyone know if added equipment could somehow mess with the serial data line and pick up false info? The only other thing I can think of is that the events that are causing my ABS communications to the ECM to act up are all at slower speeds when I am not using the cruise control and the communication is re-established at speed. It really seems weird to me that everything is now working, but the communication is lost. I'm a little nervous to take the bike too far from home until I resolve this.
For reference, I have gone through all of the fuses and checked the circuitry for bad grounds etc and haven't found anything out of the ordinary.
