Why does it seem that sometimes the simplest of things causes problems?
I adjusted my drive belt today and for the first time ever I struggled with the darned axle cover on one side! Took me forever.
I changed my Primary Fluid, checked my Primary Chain and adjusted my Clutch. Installed a new drain plug. The new drain plug leaks! The clutch doesn't disengage fully and I'm 1/8 turn out. What the heck's going on? Need to quit for the day. What's the cure for the drain plug. I'm afraid of tightening it so tight it strips.
Sometimes when I'm struggling with something in the garage I have to just walk away. I come back a few hours later and suddenly whatever it was comes apart or goes together or does whatever I couldn't get it to do. No idea why. I'll suggest you remove the drain plug and catch that new oil in a clean container. Get a close look. Maybe you've got some crap on the threads, or maybe the o-ring was cut.
You might even pick up a new plug and o-ring and have it ready. Also try to get a look at the threads in the hole (easier said than done) unless you spot something obvious with the plug.
Had days like that and usually if I try “to fix” whatever mishap immediately then usually end up even worse. Now I’m trying to recognize it early and walk away lol.

"You go to know when to walk away" as the song goes right? I do but I'm stubborn. Sometimes it takes me longer. And that is a new plug! It went in nice and easy too.

.... The correct tap size and handle would be a plus for chasing those threads (carefully), provided you can get to that threaded hole with the tap. If the plug went in "easy" the "O" ring may be missing.

The o ring was there, I made sure of that. I just opened the package it was in. And I made sure the threads were clean before I started it in. I cranked it in about 1/2 turn more fearing it would strip out any second. It's holding now. No drips or weeping. I'm not messing with it now. Heck if I can remember next time I drain the primary I may just suck the fluid out with my little pump! LOL!
You're using the 'pipe dope' sealant as reccommended by the MoCo, right?
