Hello.. I have a 1998 Softail and bike won't start..It cranks fine but no start I tried starting fluid in air intake and not even a hiccup.. Battery volts is 12.6 and I have voltage to coil. I don't know if voltage should be present on both coil posts but it is. I ohmed coil after disconnecting both voltage supply wires @ 200 ohm setting it reads between post 2.5 That's the lowest setting on my volt ohm meter. Now I took the wires to plugs of and ohmed between them @ 20k setting they ohmed at 11.14 Can someone tell me if that is within specs of a good coil?
I don't know if this is the problem but I had no idea the left has cap came off and I only have gas in right side of tank.Would this be why it won't start ?
Starting fluid and nothing, I'd suspect no spark. So I'd remove the round on the cam cover and check the ignition module. Look for goo running down from the module as a sign it has failed.
I will do that.
LIke I said I've not seen a coil with volts on both neg and POS post.
I know the vacuum switch is what supplies ign module and modular supplies a neg to the coil so figured something is wrong in that circuit..
I'll let you know what I find
Thanks
Your coil and wires appear to have the proper resistance.. Try this short test to see if you're cam position sensor is triggering the ignition coil to fire.. Just need a momentary switch..
Thanks I'll try that..
Only reason I thought ign mod or coil is that between the post on coil with battery volts I ohmed ant it was 2.5 and it says online it should be 3.00 and the fact I'm getting battery volts on neg post of coil.
