I ride a 2011 Wide Glide with the 96ci motor. It still has the stock air cleaner, and I am looking to get a aftermarket one for more air flow. The previous owner did not give me many details when I purchased the bike. It has a two into two Rinehart exhaust that was on the bike when I bought it. The bike runs well, and there is no fuel controller on it that I can see, so I assume it had a tune after the pipes were installed. By installing an aftermarket air cleaner, would it be recommended to get a tune or fuel controller? Or can I get away without the tune if it’s running fine? Appreciate any guidance.
When you say stock air cleaner, is the backing plate still on it and the stock paper element in use? Only reason I ask is from the pic it looks like there’s a possibility you already have a stage 1 setup whereas there is no backing plate but the original cover was kept as is often the case.
[QUOTE=smitty901;21609977]Assume nothing. It is not uncommon to do pipes and not tune. Nothing wrong with it unless you go with some wide open exhaust.
Most basic aftermarket AC changes will not require a tune. You may squeeze a little more out of it with a full stage 1 and a tune.
07 TC 96 75,000 miles with Heavy breather and Night stick exhaust. No tune no issues ever. Lot of miss leading information on the internet.
Next someone will tell you have to DYNO it.
Okay that’s good to hear, I appreciate it. And yeah, there are a lot of guys on the internet that are pretty extreme lol. Definitely a few that would tell me to DYNO it.

That is a good point. I actually hadn’t thought of that. I’ll have to take a closer look to see if it’s been modified and if the backing plate is missing. Thanks for the reply.
