Running 55 miles one way, all but about 9 miles on interstate. It's been bugging me a while, just finally frustrated enough to ask for thoughts here. I've run cruise on, cruise off, 70mph, 65, 75...makes no difference. Literally night and day are different. Used to be able to make 2 round trips on a tank, now I'd be pushing the thing the last 10 miles the second day easily. If anything, the daytime rides should be worse due to traffic vs smooth riding home at night. Just perplexed and looking for ideas.
Thanks!

I've owned this '07 for about 4 1/2 years.
I bought it in Vegas and rode it to SoCal, & I was amazed that the fuel economy was so low.
I didn't really do anything but complain about it until last week when I finally took the bike in for a dyno tune.
I was getting MAYBE 27MPG before, and after the tune I'm now getting 33MPG.
It has smoother throttle response, more pull through all gears, and is generally speaking, more fun to ride.

While my situation isn't not be the same as yours, consider the tune; it may restore your MPG.

Some day when you got the time, gas up after one trip, so you can compare. 55 is a long run to average out, and I get after work just want to go home.

If I understand you, same route, only difference is day or night. I knew an old mechanic who said he would adjust his timing and could get away with it at night to avoid detonation, for hot rodding. But I can't imagine that big of difference on stock bike. Interesting though.

I bought my 2007 new, and still have it. Something is wrong with your bike. And still is.

That's a great looking bike, and I don't know the details of what you've got--bored, stroked, etc. but I know I wouldn't personally be happy with either of those numbers. I know we don't ride for economy, but it'd be nice for me personally to be able to consistently get the 41-42 mpg like when I first got mine.

Yes, you understand correctly--same route both ways. It's completely stock other than slip-on's--married with kids problems lol. That's why I posed the question here...I am just puzzled.

get a list of top tier gasoline suppliers off the net. my honda makes about 4 mpg more over murphy/walmart fuels that are 10>15 cents cheaper, and it is cheaper than buying fuel additives. on my tow truck, makes a 2 mpg diff.
i do not think that hd ecu logs miss fire data but for every miss fire there is a loss. that said, NO cylinder fires 100% every time and you cannot always tell the miss fire is there.
i would do the mechanical tests first like compression and leak down and if good, have the ignition tested on an o-scope, the wave signature tells all.

Thank you for the info on top tier fuels, I will definitely look into that. Elected to replace filter over the weekend while doing some other odds and ends on the bike, rode the past 2 days and will continue to experiment with riding speeds/style etc and report back. So far, range still doesn't look promising...should have first post-filter replacement numbers tomorrow.

check the prevailing winds. You may be running into a headwind on the way home from work. I lose 4-5 mpg with a decent headwind at interstate speeds.

I’ve had three M-8 touring bikes in the past four years. The range on my latest 2024 FLHP is 40-80 miles less than my 2022 Road Glide or 2020 Street Glide. And I had added a tour pack, and more chrome to both of those.

Maybe the 2024 cop bike has a richer tune, who knows.

I have experienced that too many times to count (riding home from vacation in tropical storms more than once--not fun) and I figure some loss is typical. But this has been more like a trend the past year+.

That's very strange with M-8 bikes being that varied. I'm not able to keep up with that, I'm still kicking around with my mostly stock 103. Bought new, so it has just struck me as odd that the bike has fallen off the past year or so. I would subscribe to that train of thought if I had added a bunch of stuff recently...my only change in the past year has been replacing bars and switching from fairing mounted to bar mounted mirrors. Should not effect the mileage I wouldn't think.

On a sidenote @gonemad, I've actually kept up with Hulkss thread on the FLHP and love what y'all are doing with the bikes!
