Pingel electric speed shifter problems

I own a 2012 H-D Triglide. I'm a double above knee amputee. I bought a Pingel electronic shifter 6 years ago. It's worked great so far until a couple years ago. When I get into some serious rain, It'll downshift by itself. I parked her for a couple days to dry out & its still doing it. I pulled all the connects & checked the brain. It's all dry but still "ghost" shifting on its own. I pulled the connector to the what I thought were sealed handlebar buttons and I think it quit. I live in Alaska, it rains alot. I ride alot. My question is what is getting wet to make it do that? Is it in the handlebar buttons? or the s**t under the seat? Can I grease and bag the whole thing under my seat to stop it from getting wet. It only happens when it rains.
