Default FOB Programming

Hey there Harley Riders.
I have a working FOB Model CID.
I'd like to get another as a stand-by. I have found some used FOBs on Ebay.
Can a used FOB found on Ebay be reprogrammed for my bike?
Is there a way that I can do this or would I need to take it to a dealer.
I looked it up on line and here as well. The best I can come up with is I will need a new one and have the dealer program it.
Is it possible to buy a used FOB and have it reprogrammed for my bike?
Thanks

I'm assuming you're talking about the button-less proximity fob for your 2009? It's possible to program a used fob to your bike with a few caveats. The part number must be identical to your existing fob. It's not something you can do yourself unless you have access to an aftermarket device capable of doing so. Only two fobs can be programmed to the bike at the same time, meaning whoever is doing the programming would need to open up the existing fob to see it's serial numbers.

You have to ask yourself how much are you saving by purchasing an eBay fob versus purchasing a fob from a dealer with a 1 year warranty? My dealer charges about $80 for a replacement fob, programming is included in that $80.

I never bothered to ask, but I would imagine my dealer would charge a minimum of 1/2 labor at their current rate ($120 per hour) if I asked them to program a fob that wasn't purchased from them.

I purchased a new fob on the Harley web site, took it to my local dealer and they paired it to the bike free of charge.
