Hey guys, was riding home last night when all of a sudden my headlight started flickering a bit, bike let out two massive backfires and that followed with loss of all power. Lights and all. Nothing when I turn the key so I can’t even turn it over. Bike has twintec ignition, screaming eagle intake and tbr 2-1, jetted accordingly. Bike is an 02 dyna low rider. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
1. How old is your battery?
2. Remove battery, charge it then get it load tested if you do not know how to check it with a VOM.
3. If you know how to check with a VOM, get the voltage readings; however, just because it shows good voltage does not mean the amperage is there.
4. Report back your findings.
Welcome to the forum.
NOTE:
The above information, while credible, is worth what you paid for it and should not be considered gospel.
Do due diligence, research and have a H-D Field Service Manual before working on your bike.
You will probably have many opinions and suggestions presented; make sure you research the person providing the helpful information as there are some who provide good information that is useful and some who speak out of other orifices with gibberish. You will figure out this quickly.
Loss of all power could be ignition switch, batery or breaker. I believe that year still has a breaker. I would tighten the battery cables first. Then I would be jump pack or charger on high for 5 minutes and see if it responds. If it does probably battery. But charge it and see if holds, or load test.
Or put it on a charger over night, and see if does anything the next day.
Put meter on battery, put meter on main breaker, check main fuse if it has one, tighten battery cables, boost the voltage and see if it does anything, are some of things I would do base on how much effort I felt like at the moment,
