I brought 2 things from ebay
1 transmission sump pan replacement and
1 engine oil sump pan replacement
Ive opened both of the boxes and the pans are spot on identical from each other. Is that right or has eBay screwed me??
Model and year bike would help. But if you go to Harley's website, click parts and you can chose OEM parts. The year and model and you can look at the different OEM parts for your bike.
Dunno what model you are talking about, but on my Evo RK the transmission oil stays inside the transmission housing. No sump pan involved. The engine oil lives in the pan that bolts on underneath the transmission but is completely separate from the transmission, oil-wise.
So there is only one pan. It bolts on the bottom of the transmission, but it is the engine oil pan. Confusing terminology because it is actually a remote engine oil tank, not a sump or pan in the normal sense. Sounds like one seller has called it a transmission pan because it bolts on the bottom of the transmission. The other has called it an engine sump pan because it contains the engine oil. But as you have observed, they are one and the same. Always check the OEM part numbers for your bike to save confusion.
And of course, your model may be different from what I have described.
PS.. welcome to the HDFORUM. Only as a suggestion by me as a USER just like you, make your next new thread over in the newmember welcome area to say hello.

On my 2013 SG, the pan under the tranny hold the engine oil and tranny fluid.
Your pan doesn't hold transmission fluid. There is a tiny amount of transmission fluid in the passageway between the transmission and the transmission drain plug. The majority of the fluid is in the transmission.
Here's a pic of the passageway with the baffle removed.
The pan underneath the transmission holds engine oil, and as Barney said, a tiny amount in the passageway between the transmission case and the drain plug on the bottom of the pan.
The transmission lube is in the transmission case on all big twin transmissions.
I`m guessing that the OP may be a parts seller and does not work on Harley Davidsons...
