I couldn't afford paint so I went with decals. Works for me and I've got a few thumbs up on the road.

I think it depends on what you are looking for. I've seen people do lickem-stickem lines and then clear over them. But, if you're looking for scrolling pinstriping "with flair", I would strongly suggest going with paint.

Paint also affords an almost endless array of color options. I'm thinking of putting a pinstripe on my Heritage. I did try on a few sticky colors to see if it was something I actually wanted to do. I liked the effect, but didn't care for the $600 pricetag the guy wanted to put a simple pinstripe between the white and green paints. I may try learning some pinstriping myself. We did the paint that is on the bike, so no need to put professional lines on an amateur's basecoat.

there are soooo many option when using paint. many stencils and etc out there as well as patterns. IF you can get a tatoo parlor to sell you them, dragons and such out there.
biggest negative is the prep, paint and clean up.

There are lots of vinyl pinstriping kits available. I found a custom decal shop in eBay that made my trunk decals. I like their decals I put on the side of the trunk.

Thanks for your replies. I for one prefer decals. It allows me to change the look of my bike without braking the bank.

like mr. goose said
most any print shop can do decals. you can even bring in your own pattern.
sometimes i have to do a repair and the logo is destroyed in the process. the mfg WILL NOT sell you a logo or silk screen to replace the logo so that forces me to google images to find the logo and copy it and then scale it to fit the guitar body. i bring this to the print shop and have a reverse image made to use as a silk screen, reusable.
