Hey tlesde, congrats on the new 2024 FatBoy — awesome ride!

To your question about extended service plans (ESPs): yes, there are providers who offer these plans at a discount — and that’s exactly what we do at MotorcycleAgent.com.

We specialize in helping riders across the country buy Extended Service Contracts that CAN provide coverage for Aftermarket/Upgraded Components AND those motorcycles that are closer to stock. Because we operate online and work with a network of volume dealers, we can often save riders $$$ and a more flexible plan for their specific motorcycles.

Here’s how ESPs work:
  • They kick in after your factory warranty expires, typically at 2 years, and can extend protection up to 9-Years from your in-service date.
  • Coverage includes parts and labor for major mechanical and electrical failures, with nationwide service at authorized Harley-Davidson dealerships.
  • There are also added benefits like towing, rental reimbursement, and trip interruption coverage.
  • If you sell your bike, the plan is transferable, which can help with resale value.
  • Modified Motorcycle Endorsement allows the plan to extend coverage to the non-stock components, including Exhaust/Tuners/Cams/Etct.
As for the “waste of money” argument:

It’s true — just like health insurance or home warranties — that not everyone will “make their money back.” But the key value of an ESP is protection from high unexpected repair bills. A single major repair (say, transmission or electrical system failure) can cost more than the full plan itself. For many riders, it's about peace of mind and budgeting, not just math.

We get that ESPs aren’t for everyone. But for folks who ride long, ride hard, or just want predictable costs, they can be a smart investment.

If you’re interested, feel free to DM us or check out MotorcycleAgent.com — we’re happy to give you a no-pressure quote and walk you through what’s covered.

Ride safe!

if you are in the first crowd, you don't need a service contract when your motorcycle experience is relegated to dealership grabass and wednesday bike nights at the local watering hole

if you are going to actually ride the bike, and it's an HD....you'll want the service contract....I paid 2500 for the contract on my '17 street glide and it paid for two engines, a new clutch, some rear end work, new tires and rotors....about 15k in repairs
You did not mention any mileage for those repairs. I have over 35k on my 2019 FLHTP with the 114 stock motor. I had tranny oil going into the primary. Added the Primary vent and all is well for over 25k miles.

I tow a TimeOut camper about 1/3rd of the time and still no issues.

The first engine went at about 10k miles....the second one at about 20k miles....put about 80k miles on the bike in the 4 years or so I owned it....it spent about 25% of it's life on a lift at the dealership for one reason or another.....keeping it running was a nightmare, but at least I didn't have to pay for it

Whether a warranty is worth it is something only you can decide.

Kevin still has it and still recommends it

Regardless of miles ridden, he would not be without a warranty on these bikes with all the electronics that cannot be repaired, only replaced.

Ride Safe, Ride Free.
