if you are in the first crowd, you don't need a service contract when your motorcycle experience is relegated to dealership grabass and wednesday bike nights at the local watering hole
if you are going to actually ride the bike, and it's an HD....you'll want the service contract....I paid 2500 for the contract on my '17 street glide and it paid for two engines, a new clutch, some rear end work, new tires and rotors....about 15k in repairs

You did not mention any mileage for those repairs. I have over 35k on my 2019 FLHTP with the 114 stock motor. I had tranny oil going into the primary. Added the Primary vent and all is well for over 25k miles.
I tow a TimeOut camper about 1/3rd of the time and still no issues.

Regardless of miles ridden, he would not be without a warranty on these bikes with all the electronics that cannot be repaired, only replaced.
