Brand new Harley rear(driven) pulley has "rough" teeth right out of the box.
Seems odd to me. Wondering if it is "normal" before I go back to dealer. It's Sunday so I figured I'd see if I could get some responses since I can't get to MoCo till Monday or Tuesday Very rough on many teeth and almost appear misshapen Fairly smooth in some areas Maybe an optical illusion because it isn't smooth but the rough area seem flatter and wider
That would be going back. Screw your belt up quick.
That's what I was thinking but have never bought a new one. Wondered if it was like tire "nubs" that maybe it would "wear in" and be ok but it is super abrasive. I'll take it in and see what they try to convince me with🤣.
perfectly normal and will not hurt a nat"s ****!
the belt does not even apply force to that area. that thing is either cast or billet, which do you thing hd uses. all the cogs are machined and then the guard is placed and peened to the pulley, to top is nada just like the point on a chain.
i would run it till the cows came home.
Those pulleys are aluminum and it could have been dropped before being chromed. Teeth should all be uniform in there shape.
I have bought a new stock HD rear pulley before and it didn't look like that.
Parts manager tried to convince me it was just a casting issue and to be quite honest 90% of it looked good enough, but there was a handful (or two) of those teeth that were exceptionally rough and honestly, they looked miss shapen.
He went and got their main service Tech and he came out and said a little bit is acceptable, but he wouldn't put it on a bike so they sent it back for warranty.
I spent $1500 and numerous hours on new pulleys, new belt, new seals, new primary chain and tensioner, fresh oil. I don't want to be f'n taking it off again in two years.

If your trying to convince me that the "point" on a sprocket is irrelevant...I maybe will look for other options on my situation
