I still don't believe that CHERRY RED after 2 minutes of idle is normal. It's a new bike, under warranty, and I would go to all extremes to find out what's up. I've been riding for 36 years and never seen cherry red, so I would question this.
I believe you about the manual cause it does say that, this was one of the first manuals I actually did read cover to cover.
With that said, I have not seen any episodes of cherry red pipes. Even if it is the case, thats not good, cannot be good. CYA and take in to the dealer, get it documented that you had it in there for that reason on a service ticket.
I am onboard with everyone. Even if you get past this episode, I have to believe that some for of damage has already occured or will occur due to heat stresses and premature failure. '05 bikes have the 2 year warranty- so it give you a longer time window. Get to the dealer, and have them document it in the bikes history file. Cherry red does NOT sound right under any circumstances. Any other twin cam ('05) riders observe this on their bike?

i have not seen it on my hog as of yet.....now let me say this......i had a 2000 honda RC 51, which is a 1000 cc watercooled v twin sportbike. it did the same thing, but you would only notice at night (obvioulsy) perfectly normal. (remember, sportbikes in general dont use heat shields)
I went out and started my 2005 FLHTCI and let it run until the oil was hot. I then put a tarp over it, turned out the lights and crawled under to look. No cherry red on the front or rear pipe. It had warmed up for about 8 minutes.

Intersting mental image from that one, Bill. Hopefully the wife didn't catch you, I'm guessing it would look like you were trying to asphyxiate (sp?) yourself!
This is very strange and doesn't sound right at all to me... I'd visit the dealer for sure. I'd also ask him WHY the speedo only shows .1 miles when the factory ALWAYS puts SOME milage on EVERY new bike coming off the line (dyno). Added to that, the dealer is REQUIRED to road test the bike a min. of 4 miles. This bike should have around 6 miles on it.
