Can anyone tell Me about the security systems... I have a Fob with a button in the middle of it, and was told that it was one of the proximity security systems...if true, how do I activate it? Personally, I think I might have one of the manual systems... anyone hazzard a guess?
If it's a proximity system the bike will arm automatically as you walk away. If it's the older system you'll have to press to button once to arm and twice to disarm. Walk away from the bike and lay the fob down. Walk back to the bike and try to start it then you'll know.
If your bike is older then a 2007:
To set the security system, press and hold the button until the signals flashes twice, if you have the optional siren it will chirp twice.
To disarm the security system, press the button twice within a second or so (like double clicking a mouse) the signals will flash once, if you have the optional siren it will chirp once.
If you have a 2002 bike and the key fob works to activate the security system, I would make sure the system was disarmed, then change the battery in the key fob. I would be concerned that in the near future that the 6 year old battery might set the security system and then not have enough life left in it to disable the system.

There is another thing I just read in my 2005 owner's manual, concerning a battery disconnect. It says after disconnecting your battery, the security system will not enter the configuration mode on the first attempt, so after reconnecting your battery you have to do the following:
1) Set run switch to off, cycle ignition key, on-off-on-off-on and press left turn signal twice.
2) Wait for one to three confirmation flashes of the turn signals and then set ignition key to off.
3) Repeat steps listed above
4) Continue with configuration listed
That is the first time I have read that and I have had my battery disconnected at least 4 times since I have owned this bike.

The sequence you referenced is only required if you are "configuring" your system. I found the wording confusing, but had no issues with the alarm after disconnecting the battery.
