I'm guessing about 150#'s per cyl, and they should be pretty close to equal. You need to pick it up way back of book, forget about what the fool owed.

My manual says 145 lbs. Make sure there is no more difference than 5 lbs between front and rear jugs. A leak down test would even be better if you can do it. Should be no more than 10% leakdown.

Make sure when you perform a compression test you do so at full open throttle.

Since Crazy,

Is the wide open throttle to prevent the carb from acting like a downstream shutoff of the leakage? Good Point!

get rid of those spark showing wires and put stock on. the engine sensors are getting fooled by the non stock wires. try that and i guarantee that will help imensely in the running. by what you discovered, I don't think a burnt valve is the problem.

Ok. Here is what we found.

1. The compression tester we have won't fit the plug holes since they are a smaller diameter.

2. The bore scope was too big around to fit in the plug holes so we couldn't see the under side of the valves or the exhaust valves.

3. We cleaned the carb which wasn't too bad. The was some carbon fouling since it was back firing a little. With the carb off we were able to see some of the intake valve with the bore scope and there was some fouling but it didn't look really bad.

After re-assembling the carb we ran some SEA-Foam though the system and now it runs better but not where it should be.

I took it out on the road and got it to highway speeds. At about 40 mph in 5th it settles down and runs great. I still can't get on the throttle real hard until about 35 mph. There is a hesitation and some bucking if you push it to hard. We think this is a combination of plugs wires and mixture. There doesn't seem to be a burned valve but while running the SEA-Foam through it we discovered a exhaust leak from the rear cyclinder. Also it wouldn't hurt to replace the software inside the carb either. The previous owner used RTV to put it back together.

Any other thoughts?

If this bike goes at auction for what we think it will, in about 2 weeks it will be between my legs riding down the road with my name on the title.

I DID IT. The bike went to auction again and had a high bid of 10,600. I got it for 11,500 wich was 100 over the high bid from the first time it went to auction. I think I should have gotten it for 10,700 but whose complaining. I got a great bike for 3-4 thou below going prices.

Now I just have to clean the garage so I have a place to keep it.

I post some picks after I take possesion and get it cleaned up.

Thanks for all you help!
