BClem, I can't agree more. I know a guy that had a perfectly good Yamaha, but he just had to have a Harley. Finally, he got a 89 Sporster, threw on straight pipes, without breather or carb adjustments, and now he's a "biker" In the last year he has put on less than 400 miles on it, all to the bar to look "cool"
I hate this attitude, but there are posers in every walk of life.
Why in Gods name would you spend all of that money on a Harley and not ride it? Doesn't make sense...
I don't understand it either, but that's his problem. He thinks more of his image than getting out there and riding. It's pissing me off, since it's getting cold here, and soon I'll have to put my ride away for the winter. I'm getting withdrawal symptoms already!
I try and ride all year, but living in the Cleveland area offers a challenge. I'm good at anything above 35 degrees. Anything colder than that and I get concerned about black ice... It's hard sometimes because of all of the damn salt they dump on the roads here. I hate getting it on my bike because of the rust it causes...
I RIDE A 2000 FXST STANDARD. DOESN'T HAVE ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES AS THE OTHERS BUT, IT GIVES ME THE ADVANTAGE OF PERSONALIZING IT HOW I CHOOSE. ALSO, BEFORE YOU BUY, SURF THE WEB. THERE ARE PLACES YOU CAN STILL BUY AT MSRP.
Bclem says the dyna wide has the most rake, I think he is wrong. My brother in law bought a dyna wide glide. I drove it once, the next week i bought my harley, i was hooked. the dyna is a sweet ride. But the harley with the most rake is a softail duece. That is the bike I bought. You can look at mine and his and you can visually see more rake. The duece also has the fattest rear tire for a harley stock. A 160 series the dyna has a 150 series. Some others have a 140 series tire.
Just look at all the bikes-their is a bike for everybody's taste.
You wont have a problem with the harleys reliability, they are built rock solid now.
By the way old harleys dont leak oil, they are just marking their territory.
No, I'm not wrong. They both have 32 degree rake but the Dyna has more trail since the fork tubes are longer. The stance is close but trail translates into more visible rake.
I did not say this anyhow, I related it here because the Harley Davidson salesman told me that and explained it as more rake....as the factory explained it to him.
The Deuce wheelbase is about four inches longer, maybe that is what you are seeing as more rake. The Deuce also has higher ground clearance and is heavier than the Dyna WG. The engine is heavier being a B model and the frame is heavier being a softail. The fatter rear tire is styled for the fat rear/front fender reversed that is installed on rear of the Deuce.
I stand corrected. I looked it up and they both have 32 degrees of rake. The wide glide has 5.1 inches of trail and the deuce has 5.0 inches of trail. I might of misunderstood the salesman i was talking to. Maybe the deuce has more rake than any other softail. Hope you will forgive me, I was wrong on this one.
