Dot 5 fluid dissipates heat better than DOT 2 or 3. DOT 5 is silicone base so it doesn't absorb moisture. I live in the south with 95 degree days, pavement temps can reach 140. rear master sits close to the front head pipe. I haven't had any problems.

DOT 5 is more spongy-feeling than DOT 4 anyway. Additionally, the front brakes are difficult to bleed completely. Takes a lot of pumping, adding fluid, and more patience than most people can muster.
You may want to try this reverse filling processon your bikes:
It forces the air out the top of the system as you fill it rather than trapping it in the system.
I for one do not understand why Harley switched to DOT 4 from DOT 5. On a motorcycle, DOT 5 seems to be so much more friendly and easier to work with. You got any insight into why H-D made that change?
