I would appreciate any help you can give me reference the following areas:
1: "Rain X" on harley windshields? I've heard yes and no, but never from someone who has actually used it.
2: Just arrived home from an 11 state, 8 day ride and my speedo acted up a few times. I ride a 2001 Ultra Classic with 27,000 miles and a few times when I'd start the bike and head out, the speedo would only go up to about 35mph even when I was running 60-70mph. When this would happen, I'd pull over to think about what to do and then when I'd start the bike again it would seem to have reset and operate properly. Average weather, not cold or hot. One time when wet and once when dry. Any thoughts?
I can't say from experience but I've heard definitely no on the Rain X. It is made for glass, not plexiglass.
I've read a couple of articles about the speedo problem and it seems to be an out of the blue problem with HD. One thought was that if you use the ignition to kill the bike rather than the thumb switch on the handle bars, that can eventually cause the speedo to act up. The other thought was when turning on the ignition, wait until the security light goes off before turning on the thumb switch. The idea was that the electronics go through diagnostics while the security light is on and turning on the thumb switch confuses it. Honestly, both sound a little like hogwash, but the guys who wrote the articles swore by them. I had that happen once on my old Sporty and it never happened again.
The Rain X eats the special coating Harley has installed on their windshields. Don't use it.
The speedo problem seems to be common. Has only happened to my current bike once. Seems to be an electrical glitch. When it happens just pull over and turn your bike off for a few seconds then start it again and it should be OK.
