GREAT! Thanks for the input. Sounds like I need to throttle back. I just have that need for speed still. I'm considering the Fulsac X-pipe with TTS and some Rhinehart of Bassini slip-ons. Can't stand the CAT on a motorcycle.
Normally I get around 42 to 45 at about 70 MPH. Over that mileage drops fairly dramatic. Now the cold weather causes poorer gas mileage but in Texas that should not be too dramatic. Windy conditions will increase consumption also. These things are the same with automobiles.
I bet if you slow down as a test, you will find better numbers.
Rated mileage is based on 55MPH with no wind, conditions that don't really exist.
Thanks, all! There seems to be a consensus here: Throttle back and enjoy the ride!
Well, Cromagnon, it's warmed up to 33 so, I guess I'll go for a ride
I track mileage meticulously... since new (June 10th, 2010), my FLHTCU has 8,991.4 miles. At least half of those miles are riding 2-up, and do a fair amount of riding in colder weather (30 to 50 degrees).
Highest mpg on a tank with a trip of > 100 miles was: 44.06.
Lowest mpg on a tank with a trip of > 100 miles was: 32.14
Average MPG for the entire 8,991.4 miles: 37.63
This includes commuting to/from work (about 10 miles each way), and a trip to Sturgis (1,800 miles).
My 2010 FLHRC is still stock and I average 45-46 mpg when riding at speeds of 55-70 mph. Stop and go traffic around town will drop it below 40 but I've never had it fall as low as 35. My riding style is pretty conservative though with no fast starts or stops and usually steady cruising. Don't know if this helps or not but maybe you're running it pretty hard?
On my Dyna FXDB I got about 40-42 mpg city, and on the hwy @ 70-75 mpg I would get 45-49 mpg.
Since winter hit it is more like 42 hwy and 36-38 city. Gas stinks in the cold. I think they do something to it.
