Why do the GPS systems for Harleys cost 699.00 and up?
Wouldnt the 150.00 dollar ones like you use in the car work just as well and leave some change in your pocket?

I am thinking of mounting one on my Dyna..

I bought a nice mount for my Garmin and it works great on the bike. There is always a premium for the Harley and it's weather proof too.

Duece....which mount did you get for your GPS? I've got a Garmin Nuvi and I've not been able to find a mount that will work on my bike

Do all the GPS units come with a headseat or a plug for a earpeice. I myslef want to mount one but like to be able to hear the GPS as well as see where im going on the screen.

Im actully looking at the Garmin Nuvi 13500 or 1450 ,but it does not say anything abpout a ear peice. I assume it would be a little hard to hear at 70MPH on a loud Harley without a earpeice.

Many "auto-use" units are not weather proof, will not withstand the vibrations, and their screens "wash out" in bright sunlight.

No. And some have no sound at all...just visual commands.

So, look very closely at each model's features. Some are "auto-routing" and some are not. Some allow specific routes to be downloaded and others do not. Some have features like XM, weather, traffic, bluetooth, and so on.

Bluetooth with a helmet communication system. No wires to deal with.

Weatherproof, true on that.

I would be very curious if any of the internal parts and microchips are mounted in any way differently. Anyway, vibration in the touring bike handlebars isn't significant for electronics and in any way.

Bright sunlight - yes possibly but the viewing angle is easily changed vs. instruments/radio in a car.

As far as water proof, I found a mount with a auqa water proof box 73.00 even with the 150.00 GPS (239.00) . Thats way below 699.00 for the Motorcycle GPS and the ones from harley.

Here is the link>>>>>http://www.mountguys.com/product_p/ram-b-174-aq6u.htm

I think I found my new GPS and mount.
