Hey everyone, I'm installing some apes for a bro of mine and ran across something everyone needs to be aware of. I worked in the Tube manufacturing business for 17 yrs so here is some education I hope saves you troubles.
HD runs Thier wiring through some abrasion resistant insulation, and you need to do the same and here is why. When steel tubing is made it is forge welded, the outside weld bead is scarfed off with a set of knives. But the inside still has RIF (residual internal flash) this is a rough and sometimes sharp bead left inside the tube, this rough bead will mess you up if your wires are rubbing and vibrating on that RIF.
The reason I am bringing this up is my bros bike had T Bars on it and the person who did them cut the insulation and used a Piece on each end and left the wires bare, when I pulled them out tonight they had spots that were abraded pretty badly where the wires rested in the inside corners. Just a heads up, buy the abrasion resistant wrap and run it from controls all the way to the connector, do the job right.
Lesson complete.
'Lesson complete'....now that there is funny. But seriously, he gives excellent advice. Pullin wire has its own do's and don'ts and lots of 'should's. Take it seriously or you might be the one with a broke down bike on the side of the road with shorted out wires.
