I put my Seventy Two up for the winter in my garage (where will not drop below zero deg C or 32 deg F). Put fuel stabilizer in with a full tank, ran it for a few miles/kms and have the battery (still installed) on trickle.
My question is; Can I cover the bike with an aftermarket bike cover with the battery being trickled? The reason I ask is I worry that some corrosive gases may be vented or created during the charging or trickling, and I don't want those gases , if generated, to affect my bike under the cover. My thought process is that the battery is a sealed unit, therefore should not vent; however I do not want to take any chances.
Your owners manual gives tips on winter storage. In the garage your bike only needs a dust cover which is porous, so any gases given off will do no harm.
You say 'trickle', which if true is not a good idea. A battery tender, that monitors the battery and charges it as necessary, is much more suitable.
My bikes all have their own tenders and have simple covers.
