If you have a good automatic battery tender is senses the need and provides only that.
I have my Ultra stored this winter at my dealer (first time in four years that I haven't ridden year round) and they strap it to a custom pallet plug in the tender, add fuel stabilizer, cover it with my full cover, and tuck it up and away from Dec 1 to April 1
My EGC has a battery tender that stays on the bike all winter until spring, if I anticipate not riding for awhile, I hook it up. All my other equipment(lawnmower, ATV, tractor) have a battery tender that pretty much stays on all the time unless its getting used..I reccommend them highly.
You may or may not have picked up on the fact that the battery tender MUST be one which senses when to full charge, when to maintain charge, and when to shut off. There are some products which call themselves "battery tenders", but are merely battery chargers and a constant charge will ruin your battery.
Autozone sells a schumacher motorcycle charger for $22. I bought 2 and am picking up a 3rd.
Never used to use them but my Harleys seem to be multiplying.
Other than my everyday ride, the others tend to sit and get polished more than they're riden.
I had to replace the batteys in 2 of them last year.
These are cheap insurance.
