Just received my Rider Backrest kit #52572-03 for my 2007 FLHTCU with the instructions to install the backrest. But nothing on how to remove the seat. :-(

Well on my 03 Dyna there is a tab on the rear of the seat with a screw which screws down through the tab and onto the fender. Carefully remove the screw and lift the tab off the fender. Assuming you have a sissy bar, hold the tab with your hand (so as not to allow it to touch anything) and manuver it under, out and away from the sissy bar pad while putting your other hand where your butt attaches to the seat. Slightly make the seat bend in an arc by lifting the tab end up while pushing down with your other hand and slide the seat carefully and slowly back until the seat comes free. There is a tab under the seat that slides into a slot on the frame. Just go slow and be careful and its not so hard to do. The seat bends rather easily.

Not sure, I have the adjustable rider backrest and i need to reach between the seats and push down a small lever and then pull out the backrest. I believe the one you have has a release on the back of the pad, but I could be way off.

Sorry I misread your initial post. I remove my seat by removing the screw/bolt behind the passenger pillion and then slightly lift rear of seat from the fender and pull toward back of bike. I have a RK though.

glideridemike: Thanks for the location of the screw, it is hidden by the tourPack. I can feel it, but can't see what time of head is on the screw, being a novice I certainlydon't want to remove the tourPack.

I'm sure someone here could tell you how to remove the tourpak. Maybe post up in the forum for your type of Harley

No need to remove the tour pack. It is a phillips head screw. just get a long phillips head screwdriver..kinda large and be carefull not to slip. Real easy to do. There is alot of room if you compress the foam in the seat and backrest. Then lift up the rear a bit and slide seat back until it comes unclipped at the front and then lift up and out. There are 2 bolts to remove that your mount hooks to and also another bracket hooks to a clip. Just make sure you check the position of the mount. I think i put mine with the remainder of the mounting holes to the rear...i think.....

I use a flexible extension with a large phillips head and remove the screw ....between the tour pack and seat. remove the screw and start lifting the back of the seat until there is enough room to release the front of the seat that has a tab that inserts into the frame.

You will also need to remove the seat strap. The instructions are in the owners manual. I think the Phillips is a #3, one size larger than the standard phillips.. My craftsmen worked great.
