Default Where do I go from here?

1995 Heritage. Need to take the console off to tighten speedo. Has acorn nut and small phillips screw( I've been told) at bottom of hole in trip knoob. I can't tell whether or not I've stripped the screw or not. Does anyone know exact size of screw or what I should do if I can't untighten? Some people have said people loctite those in? All I know is I can't see anything in there with a light, and I can't get the dumb screw out. Thought this would be a short, easy job??? Don't want to reach for the hack saw just yet.

Are you talking about the screw the acorn nut is attached to? If so, the part number is 4761. My parts book does not mention the size, but I'm sure a harley dealer can tell you. There's a nut attached to the screw on the under side of the console. Also, you may want to consider posting this on the evo classic forum. You might get some more replies. I hope this helps.

You need a size 0 cross-head screwdriver to get it out - gently! It is probably the smallest individual part on your bike!

Yes. And after many, many times of successful removal and replacement, the garage floor pores finally sucked it in.

I get mine at ACE in stainless steel so they're more rust resistant and they only cost about 35˘. I think they're a couple of bucks at Harley. Don't recall the size but if you bring your old one the comparison will be obvious even if your threads are bad.

Try twisting the trip reset **** counter clockwise while pushing in on it for a while. The screw threads into a piece that threads into the speedo. If you can get that piece to release you should be able to pull the whole thing out through the dash cover. The head on that tiny screw on mine is about shot. If/when I have to remove it again, I'm just going to leave the reset **** off and keep it on the bike someplace so I can just use when I get fuel to reset the trip odometer.

I advise against using loctite on the screw because it might make it a bitch to remove the reset **** in the future if the screw head gets to buggered up.

PS. The speedo is actually held in by two pins with curclips attached to little rubber mounts. If the speedo is just moving a little, it is designed to do that.

It is a phillips head screw and is damn near as small as the ones you find in eye glass repair kits.
