speedo or gps?

Speedo reads 70 mph, GPS reads 68 mph. Which one is correct? BTW, bike is 2013 ultra classic.

The error on the Garmin GPS is advertized as +/- 1%. so, at 68mph (gps) you could actually be between 68.68 to 67.32 mph.

Motor vehicle speedometers are not supposed to indicate less than actual speed. Manufacturers don't want to be responsible for your speeding ticket

68 or 70......does it really matter?

split the difference. or use the faster one if you are concerned with speeding tickets.

I would go with the GPS being more accurate..

60 mph takes exactly 60 seconds between 1 mile markers on the freeway. Every bike i've owned is just slightly under that as indicated. ( 60 mph is really closer to 59 or so. No big deal.)

Of the two, the gps will be more accurate. Your speedo is driven off the trans, so is dependent on rear tyre diameter, which will change from brand new to worn out by 2-3% throughout its life, also have subtle changes in diameter if solo or 2-up. In addition manufacturers of vehicles are not required to make their speedos particularly accurate, probably no better than +5%.
