I know this is a bit old but, yep. I just did mine last night. Finding a spring that will work is half the battle as the surgery to place it is not hard. On my backrest the flap on back could be pulled up enough to expose the cavity at the top of the mount swivel. And I could reach into the back of the rest from the bottom and the slit in the last sentence. I have lots of springs in the workshop and found one that was slightly larger than the broken one I found under the flap. It was too long but I just cut the extension shafts and fashioned two new 'I' hooks one on each end. Instead the spring from the top of the back of the pad into the front of the metal backplate. There should be a hole to hook it into. Wrap the spring over the top of the backplate and insert it behind the flap of fabric and then from the bottom use pliers to pull the spring toward the bottom of the hinge. It was not obvious where it hooked but the matal has some places I thought would work. If your spring is too long just remove and re-fashion a 'J' hook. The spring needs to be an expansion spring style with a 'I' hook on each end. I fashioned my J hook so it curved away from the spring. I though since my spring was bigger than the stock one that it might wear the in side of the fabric so I found some heavy duty shrink tube and encased the spring in that. Heated the shrink tube so it was loose on the spring to not impead movement.
I know this is all in text and may be hard to follow but I will respond with pix and more if anyone needs.

Hope you got it done before this!
