Default Fix My Hog?

Hey there guys,

I have a Rocker C but am new to Harley Davidson, although I've worked on a lot of Jap bikes in the past.

I was wondering what you thought of the Fix My Hog program? Is it worth signing up for a subscription? Do you get your money's worth? Are the topics covered practical and usable in everyday biking?

Any info and insight would be greatly appreciated.

All the best.

No idea old chap! The factory service manual is essential IMHO and if you come across a particular task you want to tackle, then there are zillions of free videos on line, also the fine folk of HDF. In future post in the appropriate forum for best results, Softail for your bike.

I used to tinker with my Jap bikes and relatively new to HDs. The Service manual is useful

Hey there guys,

Thanks for the input.

I usually do get myself a workshop manual, if I'm planning on holding on to a bike for a while, which I'm definitely planning on doing with my Harley. Unfortunately Harley Davidson won't ship workshop manuals outside the US, and since I'm in the UK I may not be able to get my hands on one. Harley's look relatively easy to work on but the manual would be great to have just in case.

Don't talk nonsense old chap, they are available from any UK dealer! Buying one from the USA would probably cost a darned sight more, with high shipping costs plus import duties. Don't make Harley ownership out to be so difficult over here - I've only owned the darned things since the '70s!!!!

Hey there grbrown,

To be completely honest I haven't even tried to order a manual via my local Harley dealership. Ok, my face is now very red.

Sorry I came across as being difficult, old bean, that certainly wasn't my intent.

Just realised you're from Bradford, and a HOG geeza. What chapter? If you don't mind me asking.

Bedford, a bit further Sarf! Although a long-standing member of HOG (since before the local Chapters were invented) I don't have a dealer very close by, so don't belong to one. Black Bear at Newmarket is our closest, around 50 miles away, which makes a nice round trip in its own right!

My first Harley was a new 1974 Super Glide and the only dealer in the UK at the time, Fred Warr, supplied my service manual! If you need any advice please ask.

I'm pretty lucky up here, my local dealer, Newcastle Harley Davidson, is less than 20 miles away. I have to get back in there to pick up my owners manual, left behind after the bike's last service, so I'll get myself a workshop manual ordered.

I have to admit this is my first Harley, bought it just last year from Robin Hood Harley. Very very good bunch of blokes in that place, service blew me away! I started riding at 16, 47 this year, but always racer type stuff. Although I did get into muscle bikes the past few years. The Triumph Speed Triple, the original one, is an amazing bike!

But I'm very comfortable on the Hog and plan to enjoy the new relaxed riding attitude I have for a long time to come.

Thanks very much for the offer of advice, it's very much appreciated, I have a feeling I might take you up on that from time to time.

All the best.
Rob.

Thumbs up

Rob, ah - the triples! I had one of the originals, actually a BSA Rocket 3, back in 1971. Quite brings a tear to the eye!

Cool. Actually I had a Rocket III too, but the latest incarnation. A wee bit different these days...
