Default FanDamnIt

After waiting a couple weeks for my "parade fan" to get her from Chicago Harley, it finally comes today. Woohoo! I put on my grubbies and open the box, ready to head to the garage and get to it.

First thing I see in the instructions is a diagram of the inside of the fairing, and "Follow service manual to remove outer fairing." WTF? I knew I was gonna relocate the horn, but inside the dang fairing?

I also knew I was going to have to remove the air cleaner tomount the thermostat on the backplate. (I read it somewhere in this forum). But didn't know I was goingto have to unsecure and lift the fuel tank to get to the upper engine mounting bracket. Groan.

So, I figure I'll ride over to either of the Harley dealers nearby and get a service manual. I better call first to make sure it's in stock. Of course it's not, at either place! Why would they expect anyone to want a flippin' service manual? It'll take two weeks; they have to order themfrom the publisher.

So I just ordered one from Chicago HD. Of course I'll probably have to wait while the publisher prints up a new batch.

Anyway. Does anybody have a better place for the horn besides inside the fairing? Any other tips on this process would be appreciated.
Hmmm... I wonder how much the Stealer would charge to...

Yeah, I know, I'm whining.

Don't throw the directions away when you are done. You are gonna need them when your fan break's.....Seriously, no joke...Those things often have a short life. We don't get them on our fleet bikes at work for that reason.

The catalog says it (91550-00C) will fit '97-later FLHT models. But after your input I went to the HD site and looked it up. Sure enough, it says '97-'06 (so, not '07s). I called Chicago HD, and they'll take it back and wave the 20% restocking fee. I didn't want a damn fan anyway.
