What does it feal or sound like if you hit the rev limiter? While riding today I got on it pretty good and in the top end of second gear it just died. Hard to explain but it felt and sounded like it ran out of gas just went BLAAH! Shifted to third and it was fine. i didnt think i had the RPMs up that high but then again I dont have a tack or know what it sounds or feel like that hit the revlimit.
That sounds exactly the same as mine. My take is that it is all it can safely give for HP and it's time to change gears. Not designed like the the machines that don't come alive until they hit 5000 or better. It's a low end high tork muscle motor for sure.
Easy to run up on the REV limiter in lower gears. It does not hurt it. Many raise the limit with a tuner. Nothing wrong with doing so . Long as you don't abuse it.
in days past, the rpm level was 7.5k and the hd loved it. it can easily take it.
it is very true that power falls off, but, there is what they call after peak power that is very important and can be used to your advantage.
if you have two identical machines but one can carry the power another 500 rpm upscale, it is likely to be the winner. why??
well you can carry each gear longer and that means more torque which equates to more speed.
both of my hd's run the 7.5 rpm and one since 1974 and it has nearly 200k miles on it.
does a sunday school driver need it, NOPE, but then again, i do not go to church!
besides all of this, it is actually big brother looking out for you.
why did a 1.5 hp mower in the sixties do everything a 5 hp mower of today does, answer, you guessed it, big brother.
they figure they need to protect the stupid and actually, they are correct, surely you have seen that!!!
