You got some putz resurrecting and old thread instead of creating a new one..
I responded to a 6 day old post in a 7 year old thread, hence my comment about the rev limit may not have been exceeded but the time limit was, it was meant as humour, . I think maybe you should read the thread BEFORE you post in the thread.

I have to admit I have been guilty of not realizing the date and bringing threads back from the dead before though. Just reread my reply and it probably came across as a little harsh, my apologies.
I'd try to avoid doing it too often, in fact I lowered my rev limiter by 500 rpm.
As engine rpm increases, stress increase on the engine is not linear, and anyway the power is done before the rev limit, so time to change up.
That might be true in YOUR case with stock cams but there's plenty of cams making power well north of 6000rpm.
As far as wear, lugging them is far more detrimental. I'll run to 6000rpm regularly but seldom go below 2500.
nothing wrong about digging up old bones.
mine doesn't really start to pull till after the 4k mark
i am running 70 mph at 3k, so well at 6k, i am running way past the stability factor of the stock frame, feel every rock in the road. gotta love it!
hummmmm?????
1974ch would run 133mph@7.5k
@ 175k miles tore down to restore frame, bird in hand, up the ponies with 10:1 piston, y cams and s&s flywheels.
a .010 over bore to remove .006 taper and the rest of the machine showed little wear, could not tell since the original measurement were not available as hd says if it fits, ship. it now has nearly 200k miles and was never shown mercy even doing stupid stuff like figure 8's alcohol infused and carried the scrar for years.
bought brand new in aug 74 and totaled it out jan 75 taking the front end off a 72 impala, no plastic bumpers here. threw it on a steel table and welded in stops and straighten the frame with hydraulics, heat and the fsm spec's.
used to do 2k runs and normal cruising speed was @ 4k = 80 mph.
so hd is pretty rugged. i did maintain with an over kill but the machine ran 30 > 60 wt oil but mostly series 3 diesel engine oil made for industrial engines like EMD for one.
