Chicago ride route?

Chicago ride route?
As my wife is from Pentwater Michigan I will riding my Ultra up there from Arkansas when we vacation this summer, can anybody help me with a good route through or around Chicago. heading north on I-57 needing to connect to I-196 or Hwy 31 N. Thanks

I have family in Mountain Home, so this is a familiar route for me. You won't have to go through Chicago as you will be cutting east while you are still south of Chicago. Take I-57 to 80 East into Indiana. About 15 miles into Indiana, you can pick-up the Indiana Tollroad (I-94) in Lake Station, IN which will take you east then north up to I-196 near Benton Harbor, MI.
If you prefer a slower, more scenic ride pickup US-12 from the Indiana Tollroad from Indiana 49 in Chesterton IN. This will take you to 31 N. near Bertrand MI. Much better ride this way!
