hey there I grew up in Minocqua WI, lived there until 1994 lots of great riding I will look at some maps that I have and give you some possable rides our family has a cabin in Merser WI about 1hr north of Minocqua. You could also check with Northern Lights Harley for rides they should give you some ride info that there chapter has for that area. any questions please PM me and I will get you My cell phone Number. maybe my wife and I will see you and your Husb. Up there.
If you have the time, do yourselves a favor and take the finger of Minnosota that goes over the Northern Shores of Lake Superior. The veiws are fantastic. Start in the Superior/Duluth area and take Highway 61 to Grand Portage. If you guys take your passports with you can keep going right into Canada. There are plenty of Hotels/Motels along the way to stay at. Watch for Moose and other wild life and pack your camera.
Hope This Helps,

I've ridden, fished, and hunted many areas in Northern Wisconsin and for my money you can't beat the Northwest part of the State. Hwy 77 from Ironwood, MI all the way down to Hayward is gorgeous, as is Hwy 63 south of Ashland. Both of these roads cut through the Chequamegon Forest and it is very wild...at least by midwest standards. You could also take Hwy 13 from Ironwood through Bayfield and then west all the way to Duluth. This stretch goes through some pretty cool little towns as well as offering a chance to see a nice mixture of forests, meadows, and some farmlands. I can't help much with motels as we usually rented a cabin or camped, but I know that there are motels in Ashland, Ironwood, Hayward and Duluth, as well as the occasional mom-and-pop lodging in most of the smaller towns. Watch out for deer, bears, and elk!
Also, like TBone mentioned, try to get up to Hwy 61 along the shore of Lake Superior...you could stay in Duluth and just head north for half a day and then turn around and make it back to your motel by nightfall. I did this stretch last year and I've attached a few photos of some of the scenery.

All of these posts are pointing you to some great riding locations. If you make it to Cable, stop in at Lakewoods and stay the night there. Philip will take good care of you. He does a great job supporting snowmobilers in the winter and bikes in the summer. Enjoy.
I had a meeting there last summer and we stayed there last fall..................this fall we sold the boat to get the bike
We really enjoyed our time at the resort and were torn about going there again or trying something different. Thanks for the feedback! We decided to stay just north of Minocqua and are debating on our route (its a good debate).
