That's turning out really nice. You and your dad making me jealous with those seat rails. Is he going to do floorboards on her?

The rear is the original '05 16 incher. He states that it has actually never been off the bike. The front is just another rear wheel, I think maybe from a sportster. What I like is not going the Softail front end route but rather the 1960-84 FLH front end. That allowed the use of a full headlight nacelle because the old FLH neck is 30 deg, which is much closer to a Dyna than the Softail's 32 deg.

I think he is really going to love this bike as he is most used to his Shovelheads and EVO FL Softail. He had 2 twin cam Electra-Glides but just didn't want them anymore. This bike should truly handle great and be just be a pleasure to ride.

I successfully made an template for my shifter floorboard out of piece of aluminum laying around yesterday. I transferred the pattern from my plywood template and countersunk the frame holes on my drill press and she bolted up really nicely.

I humbly have to report that I had a little mishap last week while the bike was up on my dolly (not tied down). Yes - the inevitable happened - I went to rotate the dolly and the bike started coming down. I'm happy to report it didn't so much fall as was guided to the ground with what little strength I had to do so. The bottom of the frame ended up resting on the dolly which saved it. I lowered the handlebars gently to the ground and I called a buddy who promptly came over and we got her back up on feet. The only damage was I broke my plywood template for the shifter side and the shift rod snapped off, which was a blessing in disguise. I can now lathe out a new shift rod with the adjustable ends from my floorboard shift rod, which will allow me to fine tune the heel/toe placement angle.

My carelessness could have been worse and good lesson learned. Now she's tied down on the dolly no matter what and the jack is underneath as extra support, and of course, no more turning the bike on the dolly without her being tied down securely.

I will begin to form my rear fender extension today. I cut out the flat part from the street glide fender the other day and will spend some time this morning sanding the rear fender down to bare metal in prep for the upcoming welds. I'm still not happy with the placement of the rear and need to spend a little time getting that spot on.

As for the basic conversion process she's almost there. I need to clean up the wiring a tad for the spotlights so the wires fit under the seat a little better, and of course need to work out the rear brake line. I'm thinking of going with a flexible line as I mentioned a few weeks ago with the appropriate angle of fittings to get it back to the rear caliper. My plan is to stick the brake pressure switch on the outside of the master cylinder, but if it sticks out too far, I'll have to rethink that plan.

My goal is to have her ready to paint by the end of February, which I think is totally attainable. After the basic conversion is finished, than I can concentrate on the cosmetics, i.e. the tool box and the luggage rack. I still need new plastic and frames for windshield, but that is not critical. And need to replace the front brake lines and clutch line to get a better flow out of that.

And, lastly, I'll need to start advertising my take offs and get what I can out of them to backwards finance this project.

Them Dyna's just don't have a square bottom to lift with. I am constantly worried about this thing falling off the lift. Sounds like you got away with it.
I got a Fat Bob/Super-Glide tank console and 5 inch white speedo ($46 eBay) so I can put the ignition switch on the tank where it belongs. 09 speedo plugged right in and now I have the "Miles Remaining" feature (and it works too).
My father shocked me yesterday when in the middle of his Dyna/FLH build, he found a beautiful 1998 FLSTS Heritage Springer and just had to buy it. The bike is my alltime favorite modern H-D. It has so much leather fringe on it that he might get in trouble with the street sweepers union.

I was able to find some 5/16 rod today and cut and threaded it for the new shift rod. I even put a knurl on it for good measure. Yep, my little mishap could have been much worse. I finished my brake side floorboard template today using aluminum. Glad I'm using the scraps I had as I need to move the shifter side forward a hair and up a hair as the shift rod is too close to the primary case. Just a little fine tuning. I picked up a used band saw last week with a gear reducer on it for cutting metal. That has come in really handy the past couple days.

I think one of my Army buddies has that bike in turquoise and white. I know it's a heritage springer just not sure of the year. It's nice looking bike. Is your father still planning on finishing his FLH build?

Oh, he will finish it, and soon. He wants to take it south to Florida for Febuary. He always says having 2 bikes is perfect but usually has 6 at any given time.

would the folks here have any interest in a bolt on solution for putting a fatboy front end on a dyna? I have been toying around with the idea of making a lower triple tree on the cnc machines at the shop that would let you use all the other components from a fatboy front end, with out the need to grind on your neck, grind out the fork stops on a fatboy triple tree, and would still be able retain the neck lock.

That's basically how I did my front end conversion. I machined, and some grinding, the lower fork clamp to fit the frame. The rest of the parts bolted on without modification. I started with a stock fatboy lower clamp. Not sure how well you can see what has been machined in this picture, but it let me put the front end on without modifications to the frame. With some work you could machine in some stops to work with the frame for stops.



What would have been nice would be a Axle/spacer kit to let me use my stock front wheel. I ended up going with a wheel with a wider hub just to simplify things.
