yeah, there are a few "reverse trike" designs floating around and they look interesting, but as far as i know, harley won't be building them anytime soon. they teamed up with lehman trikes and will be releasing an "officially licensed" trike, in the near future. i'm not thrilled with the idea, but i guess it'll be good for trikes, in general.

Interesting. I knew that the MoCo was gonna team with Lehman, but was assuming it would be a traditional looking trike. There's a "reverse" trike here in Columbus called a Can-Am, I believe. It doesn't lean in turns.

I'll post this thread and see if I can find the web site for the Can-Am so you guys can see what I'm talking about.

Here's the Can-Am: http://crave.cnet.com/8301-1_105-9687132-1.html

and here's a Piaggio: http://www.gizmag.com/go/8251/picture/39543/

Hi Gary,

I lost my right leg, above the knee, when a guy here in Columbus ran a light and nailed me. About being ready to ride again - I know just what you mean. For about a year I wasn't even thinking about riding again - hurt too much. And then the hurting stopped. But a new hurt began. Everytime I'd hear the rumble of a Harley going down the road beside my house, I got a longing, I wanted to ride again. Some of my friends, and some family members, who don't ride, said, "Oh, Bobby please don't. It almost killed you before. I don't want to see you go through that again and worse, you might not survive the next time." However, everyone of my rider friends and family said "Go for it!"

It's true - some folks just can't understand the strong gut-felt desire to be on a bike. A long time ago, I started a Touring thread about "WHy do he do it?" - I mean put ourselves in that kind of danger. Most said its a risk we all take, and are willing to take, for the joy of riding. And that if you had to explain it to someone, they probably won't understand, so don;t waste your time trying.

Well, I ride and dang I eat it up. I feel whole again. And my wife, I got the one the God meant for me to have. All she said was that she wanted me to hear a good helmet (I guess because of the lick my old one took for my head - and I do. Last week I bought my first Modular helmet and on cold mornings - it is nice!

Tell me about your amputation, BK or AK, what kind of prothesis - My wreck happened in Oct of 2003 and I've just recently become efficient at walking on mine without my crutches. I just had to learn to trust it to be there when it was supposed to be. I had the "C" leg, but gave it back, too many glitches. Now, I have the mechanical knee and I like it so much better.

So, Gary, go for it.

Hi btefft,

Boy did you hit the nail on the head specially the part about every time you hear the rumble of a Harley go by it really gets your attention makes you want rip the throttle but you can’t go for a ride.

[font="times new roman"][size=3]Hey I got to be honest with you as for as pain goes I was really lucky they amputated me above the knee and cut most of the pain away. I had a little phantom pain for awhile maybe 2 months after my accident which was on 4/28/07. My wife has pain she got to keep her leg but she is held together with rods, plates, screws and pins she is still having therapy sometimes after a secession her knee will swell up. They say she has a 2 year recovery than they will evaluate her. Maybe her knee will need some work. We where up on a mountain road east of Big Sur actually east of Carmel Valley with 2 other riders we where all 2 up as I was going up hill going into a left hand blind curve going about 20 mi

This is unbelievable, I just got out of the hospital after a small accident on my new ultra. After I logged in, I saw this new site. Talk about coincidence. We just finished a beautiful ride along the coast at Panama City Beach. Hit a little sand and down we went. I heard my leg pop. Needless to say I had to lay it down. I was more worried about my wife at first. I could not stand up. After a week in the hospital and a few plates and donated bone and some screws, I am now sitting at home wondering what to do with my 2 Harleys sitting in the garage. I think you guys know what a terrible feeling that is. The doctor says my bone density is very low and my riding days are over. I don't think so.
I have never been interested in a trike before now. Listening to your stories has given me hope for riding again. I have been pricing trike kits from many companies. Several to choose from.
Thanks again for the new site.

bdn56,

Don't let anyone tell you when your riding days are over - that is something only you can decide (its true - where there's a will, there's a way). You will know when you're ready to ride again and then you'll figure out the best way for you to do it. mazz did it, I did it, grimm did it, CRASH did it, badinfluence63 did it, others have done it and so will you! Folks like us are like that old Timex watch - we can take a lickin' and keep on ticking! Among motorcycle enthusiasts, I guess you could say there are posers, there are bikers, and then there's us - the real deal - we actually do live to ride.

One guy once told me that going through what I went through, and not having the riding spirit destroyed, puts me on a whole new level in his book. That can be said for all the folks who have found kindred spirits on The H and T Forum. I still can't exactly put my finger on why I have this superstrong urge to get on a bike, get out in the out of doors and feel the wind in my face - but I know I'm eat up with it.

Before my wreck, I never considered having a sidecar, or a trike, but that's what it took for me to ride again. Now I've found that I've gotten spoiled by my sidecar. I mean, I can almost haul as much stuff in it, as my wife can in the trunk of her car. I often run to the store and get groceries. If I didn't have the hack, then I'd have the drive the cage to the store and what kind of fun is that.

Get this, In two weeks this one-legged biker is going on a road trip to Austin, Tx. (from Columbus Ga, 890 miles one way) and I'm gonna pack eveything in the hack for the trip. I am counting the days. Rain or shine - I'm going.

Take care, recover quickly, ride safe

You limb impaired guys and other medically challenged riders are heroes and an inspiration for the determination of the human spirit. Others such as myself whione and complaing about minor things in comparrison. We all have our cross to bear, some look heavier then others.
