Hacked, Conversions and Trailering"Harley Sidecar, Conversion Trikes and Motorcycle Pull Behind Trailering Enthusiasts"
A forum for the discussion of your sidecar, Conversion Trike or Pull Behind Motorcycle Trailer.
Just got back from three day sidecar riding school in Virginia. The class is sponsored by Virginia DMV and the MSF, cost only $70 and worth every penny. They provide the M/C and sidecar you bring protective gear. The instructors were very knowledgeable and you can and will learn much. I am so glad that I had the chance to take the course, the only one for the year, now I feel more confident with my newly learned skills behind a rig. I just can not imagine anyone throwing a sidecar on a bike and just hitting the road after taking this class. I had not idea how much I didn't know. The 20 or so practical exercises cover all types of riding/highway encounters. Its unfortunate that other states don't sponsor a similar program.

Now its time to save up a few coins for a new chair !!!
Good for you. As you now know, riding with a hack is NOTHING like riding a regular bike. Until someone has done it, they have no clue. Are you going to get a sidecar?
Tell me more about the 20 exercises. All my hack skill was "OJT", so to speak. I would like to know what situations they cover.
They cover a curriculum from the Evergreen Safety Association or something like that. They set up various exercises that cover high speed sudden stop on the straight away and curves, swerving around fixed object at speed of 20 MPH min., riding and turning with the chair in the air, drifting and counter steering, figure eight course with \\;left and right turn negotiation while down shifting rolling on the throttle and slightly applying the front brake to keep the chair down, weaving between various obstacles and executing various maneuvers, and just many more.

I have been looking at various sidecar rigs for the Road King but nothing different yet.
YEAH I JUST PICKED UP AN 2002 ULTRA WITH A SIDECAR - I WANT TO GO TO THAT SCHOOL TOO! DO YOU HAVE A # I CAN CALL?

Here's a link that may help you out. I understand the price varies at different locations. I paid $70 at \\;Central Community \\;College in Lynchburg VA. If you miss out this year make certain you catch up with one next year, worth it for your safety alone.
