Default shudder when starting off

I have a shudder when starting off in first gear. It feels like the rear axle is hopping or like axle wrap on a fast car with no traction bars. If I slip the clutch it doesn't do it. I looked underneath and all seems OK. I do have a hydraulic clutch ( clutch release cover, release rod and throw out bearing from a screaming eagle). I am lost in which direction to go. anybody else have the shudder?

If it were me I would be checking the alignment and tightness of the drive belt.

Let us know what you find.

Found alignment out. Spec. says +/- .062. (this seem excessive-any idot should be able to get closer tolerence than this)
actual is .095. Looks like I can do it without removing wheels.
Drive belt on tight side 3/8" at 10 lbs.

My 05 FLHTCI used to do it when hot. HD would not admit to there being a problem. The clutch was also noticably non-linear when that occured as well. I checked all the plates in the clutch, finally just bought a new clutch and that fixed the problem, even though inspection showed no problems with the individual components. Also, does the trike have some sort of differential? perhaps it is malfunctioning?

I did remove and check my disks. I think replacing them will be my next step if rear alignment doesn't fix it. Stock differential. It does have a compensator sprocket on it- I will try to check it also.

Mr WIZARD-- You are THE MAN. I adjusted my rear axle as close as I could to 0 tolerence and it took 99% of my problem away.
Thank you

Good to hear... funny how it's always the little things in life that made the biggest difference.
