You might check with the kit manufacturer about painting the trike body. Some of them will paint it before shipping, with the color of your bike, unless you know someone who will paint it cheaper. Most of the companies around here that assemble trikes that I have talked to get the body painted prior to being shipped.
I spoke with the guys at Frankenstein. They said they do paint for local jobs, but not on kits that are sent out. Their reasoning is that the buyer has a chance to see the exact colors in person that they will use. I can see their point.
I called my local Harley shop and asked them who they used for collision work, and re-painting. They gave me the number of the shop here that does their work. I am going to bring my front fender to them so they can line up the colors.
I also looked at the pics of Grimm's friends Crossbones. To me it looks like it has V&H True Duals on it and that they clear with no problem, so I may have found an answer to my question.
I love to ride, but this back situation of mine really has me messed up for riding on 2 wheels. I am looking forward to all of the fun I will have even on just a ride to work, let alone the gas money I will save between riding my bike versus my truck!! I can use the savings on gas, for gas in my boat...LOL
I am ordering my kit today, so let the fun begin!!!
Got a little delay in getting it because the wire wheels I want have not come in to their shop yet from the manufacturer. I should have my kit in a few weeks, if not sooner.
This should be an Awesome summer of riding!
Been talking to a few painters around here. Seems about $350.00 is the average per fender for a 2 tone with pin strip. Never really had anything painted by a shop before, but that price seems reasonable to me.
Thanks for all of the info, and inspiration you guys have provided me so far.
I will throw up some pics of the install, and the finished product when I can.
He had a couple sets, but just recently sold them while his order was in to the manufacturer. The manufacturer said they would look to see if they had any they could send to him for 2 orders they now have. If not, they were told they have wheels at chrome, and should have them out by the end of the month.
I expressly asked about having to wait 2 or 3 months for the wheels and was told that, that would not be the case. If it had been I would have found the wheels and tires elsewhere.
Scott, I really like how your bike is coming along. I think the Crossbones looks real cool done as a trike!!
I showed my wife the pics of your dog, she thinks she is real cute
Kit is on it's way, and I should have the wheels and tires next week. I got my tire, swing arm, and parts of the exhaust off last night, so that should make the install day easier. Boy the shock bolts are on there tight!
I have some spare tires that will fit until I get the real ones in and installed.
Anyone know where I can find the paint codes for 2010? Spoke with a real good painter and he said it would really help if I can get them.
Mine is a much older 1991 FLT I converted myself with Frankenstein kit. You have to have a "S" pipe on both sides to drop mufflers below axles. Due to space required for "S" pipe, you have to use very short mufflers. I used Frankesteins exhaust kit and had to add some interal baffles since shorty mufflers with kit were too loud for me at my age. The axle is nice, most of my work was changing out the triple tree. Good luck with it.
