Hacked, Conversions and Trailering"Harley Sidecar, Conversion Trikes and Motorcycle Pull Behind Trailering Enthusiasts"
A forum for the discussion of your sidecar, Conversion Trike or Pull Behind Motorcycle Trailer.
Looking good! What sort of gas mileage do you get with your rigs? I hope I only loose about 5 miles to a gallon when I put my 2006 HD sidecar on my 2002 ultra. I understand it has a lot to do with proper set up. I am hoping in about 6 or so months going on a year long road trip as cheaply as I can. A lot of camping and canned beans. Just hope this old ware out man can handle it.
Thanks
Jeff
Gas mileage does take a hit with the hacks, I get around 32-38 with mine, 95" stage II motor. Of course it depends a lot on your right hand. Taking it easy on back roads I have gotten a little over 40 mpg. Pulling the trailer down the freeway at a steady 65 mph it drops to around 30. On a few occasions when I have been able to get gas without ethanol, mileage goes up at least 5 mpg.
The wife's bike + hack, which is smaller and lighter than mine, gets 4-5 mpg better under most conditions. I'm going to recheck alignment on both before our next trip, hope I can get it a little better.
Solo I got anywhere from 50 mpg just putting down back roads to 30 mpg at a steady 85 mph down Texas interstates. Average was probably low to mid 40's.
Two friends of mine came by that have been driving sidecars for 25 to 30 years. We put the hack on but not quiet done. I did ride it about two miles and they Road it that much just checking to see what adjustment we needed to make.
I still need to torque everything, hook up the electrics, hook and bleed brakes as well as a few other things before I take it out of the neighborhood. If my health were up to it I would finish it today but just hurt to bad. Lord welling I will finish it tomorrow. Both sure need a good cleaning but that will have to wait.
Looks good! Be sure to carry something for ballast in the sidecar, especially at first, til you get used to it. It can be "exciting" the first time you fly the sidecar in a right turn if you're not expecting it.
I know what you mean about being too sore to work on it too. This gettin' old crap sucks.
