As a newbee, I'd like to know what the hell he did wrong!
He made several mistakes...first off was the attitude and pride of the camera. He wanted to "impress". Secondly, he gave it too much throttle, and let out the clutch too quickly (perhaps it even slipped?), which made the bike stand up and stop turning like he wanted it to. Thirdly he fixated on the object he didn't want to hit. Since he was staring directly at the car he hit it! Fourthly, he didn't have the presence of mind to lay off the throttle and hit the brakes, once he got into the "oh, ****!" mode. The disbelief he was actually doing that probably reduced or eliminated his reaction time. All of the above could have been resolved if he simply had depressed the clutch back in and looked where he wanted to go. Never look where you DON'T want to go! This is counter-intuitive and takes practice.
Three very important and vital things are needed for parking lot maneuvers: Friction zone of the clutch, head and eyes directly square with the intended path of the bike, and rear trailing brake. It takes practice, but used in harmony with each other, a rider can do some pretty amazing slow speed moves. No, I don't have these perfected...if I did, I could do a full circle with handlebars at full lock while scraping hard parts. I'm not that good. But I certainly know how to avoid what happened to that poor schlep! Inexperience, plain and simple.
