The 7k SE Race retards timing 10 degrees. The 6200 SE Performance retards timing 5 degrees.

A common error is installing the 7k module on a bike that actually needs more timing. Your best bet is an aftermarket ignition module that has several curves built in. THen you can dial it for what you have and then re-dial it if you change the motor later.

I'm wondering where the engine is actually at peak tq. I have a midrange cam and am wasting time shifting much over 5000. On the upshift I'm right back into the sweet spot. I don't think I'd want to spin her up to 6000 much not knowing exactly whatS in the motor.

6,000 rpm is safe. Get it dyno tested and see where your hp peaks - that's where you will be playing with shifting so you can ride the peak.
