My 2000 fxdwg has no spark. I checked the coil with an ohm meter and according to the specs in my book it is out of tolerance. I went to the dealer and they checked it and told me that it was no good. I bought a new one and still no spark so I checked the new one and it read worse than mine so the dealer checked it and agreed that it also was no good. They pulled 2 more out of stock and they also checked out as no good. Are the specs in the book or the test procedure not correct? Has any one else run into this? The parts guy called the mother ship and they did not have any answer other than to say they would ship some new ones by wends. The bike has been sitting for more than a year and I have installed a new battery. Anybody have the test procedure and specs handy?
If you checked spark with the plugs removed, you will not get it to spark because the system needs to see the crank slow down (compression stroke) in order to allow the ignition to fire the plugs.
With the plugs installed, use a spare plug to attach to the wire and ground it while turning the engine over.
Also, the battery condition needs to be good enough to supply the power to turn the engine AND power the ECM with 12volts. A bad battery will rob ECM power to turn the engine so to speak.

New battery and checked with plugs in using a spare. The coil measures out of resistance according to the manual and the dealer also checked it and they said it was no good. They pulled 3 new coils out of stock and they all checked out as no good. The parts guy called the factory and all they could say was they would send out more new coils. I am wondering if the specs or the measuring instructions in the book are incorrect. If so, it would not suprise me.
