Ignition/Tuner/ECM/Fuel InjectionNeed advice on ignition issues? Questions about a tuner? Have questions about a EFI calibration or Fuel Injection? Tips on Engine Diagnostics, how to get codes, and what they mean. Find your answers here.
Some one please help me out, I just traded up to an 07 Night Train from an 05 Ultra classic did this for to many reasons to list here just say I am more satisfied with the Soft tail. My question is if this 07 has O2 sensors in each pipe isn't all thisstuff about PCIII, SERT,V&H Fuel packs a moot point? Don't the O2 sensors provide feedback to the ECM/Fuel Control to make adjustments for the fuel/air ratio? If this is the case isn't this aftermarket stuff just overkill or am I missing the point. Any education that can be given would be helpful, life was so much easier with carbs and magnetos.
Don't take this the wrong way but...spend some time reading thru some of the posts here, particularly in this section..and I mean a couple of hours, their is a ton of excellent information here. Narrow things down using "search"...search is your friend. Then come back and ask some specific questions.
I think I understand your questions soI'll give it a shot. You are correct in that your stock07 with 02 sensors aredesigned and capable of managing your tune for good idle, driveability, low emmissions and fuel economy. Even though they are not directly monitoredduring open loop, wide open throttle operation, they do influencethe A/F ratiothru fuel trims that was learned during the previouslystated closed loop operations. However, some riders do not like the extra engine/exhaust heat created by the O2's and closed loop function keeping the A/F ratioat 14.7:1 so they will add a tuner to richen this area up which has a cooling affect at the sacrifice of engine efficiancy and fuel economy, more unburned fuel passing thru the combustion chamber and exhaust has a cooling affect.
A non stockengine is a different story,if you modify your bike andoncehad a good tune, then you need to modify your engine management system by retuning ittokeep it properly tuned, this is where the tuners come in as you described. Even if your O2s, closed loop function was able to compensate, your non closed loopengine operation is usually off tune.Hope I answered your questions.
