Fuel Pump/regulator/filter/ hose problem?
Yesterday, I left early in the morning to start what would have been a 500 mile ride.
Bike seemed fine...did the normal checks...I normally ride it almost every day.
Started up over the mountain pass...running well...but, did notice a little pinging I think..
hadn't heard that since the dyno tune last year..
Well I got about 50 miles up the mountains and the bike started cutting out badly...
Pulled over and seemed to be cutting out at idle also.
Decided to better turn around and try to make it back home.
Probably ran about 15 or 20 miles in first and second gear...with the engine cutting out ...
After a while I found that it would Sort of run better if I opened the throttle maybe about
3/4 to full...
So, I made it in doing that..
Trying to decide what I need to change out..
Bike is a 2007 Ultra Classic...it's 103"....
Thanks from Sonora,CA..

If, when you fill the tank the engine starts running better, you prolly have a hole in the pressure line caused by rubbing on the tunnel/hump in the tank. The fix is aN updated, shorter replacement fuel hose.
Also, if the fuel is low in the tank, remove the gas cap and stick your ear against the fuel inlet. Then turn on the ignition to get the fuel pump to cycle.
Listen for the sound of “pissing on a flat rock” inside...verifying there is an exposed hole in the fuel line.
Let us know what you discover.

The tank is over half full...and it started the problem when it was probably about 3/4 full...tank was full before the problem started at about 50 miles.
Don't hear what sounds like a squirting inside the tank...tried that this morning...but pump runs quite a bit shuts off...makes Way more noise than ever
before.
Bike will start on second try this morning...but is cutting out at idle and dies very soon!
Yesterday, after I let the bike cool off...I tried starting it and on the second try, it fired up and seemed to idle normally...
and was charging...oil pressure etc.
Thaks,
Shoveleighty..
PS...If I'd taken my shovel...likely wouldn't have had any trouble...LOL...

I went ahead and ordered a fuel pump, fuel filter, regulator, and a new check valve , both hoses inside tank and new bonnet screws with seals.
hopefully that will get the bike up running and more reliable again.
Thanks,

So, I went ahead and installed a new Fuel Pump/Regulator/Fuel Filter and Check Valve with new hose attached.
Bike Runs Great Again...but is slower starting for some reason...Before it would POP into Action...Now it turns over
for maybe3 seconds or so before it starts...But like I said in the beginning runs great.
The parts I ordered were from Quantum in Ventura,Ca.
I'm returning the Check Valve with hose attached as i could Not get the Quick Connect to attach to the Stock
Harley Davidson Hose to the injectors.
I Drove to Modesto HD and bought the new Check Valve and attached hose..
It was 40:00 More than the Quantum part but it Hooded right up as it should and No leak.
Quantum Isn't paying return shipping on the 20.00 part...they said I won't have to pay a Re-Stocking Fee..
Don't know why they would want to restock a part that doesn't work???
Anyway, Just need to try and figure out why the bike starts a little harder..
Thanks,

This year had an issue with the throttle stop screw backing out. That cause it to die under decel with the throttle off and also at idle. Just a quick thing to check.

I missed some of the descriptions. It sounds more like all your problems are fixed but it takes a little extra to crank? Anyway, just know that the throttle stop was a known issue for that year if you ever get stalling/really hard starting issues but it starts and star=ys running with a little throttle.
You may still have an internal leak in the fuel tank. You really need to check fuel pressure with a gauge. A small leak will allow the pressure to drop at Key On and by the time you hit the start button some pressure is lost.. On cranking the fuel pump is turned back on and it takes a little time for the pressure to build back up. Hence the longer crank.. You can try starting the bike within a few seconds of Key On to verify.
