Not necessarily. When I had my 2003 you could just have the dealer reflash your ecm. No tuner purchase required.

I think they could re-flash a stock tune without a dedicated tuner but I dont think so on a custom tune. My 2002 has a SE tuner mated to it (Vin #) Anyone know definitively?

Maybe that dealership was charging people for tuners, flashing the ecm with them, then reformatting the tuners somehow to use again ---- seems legit. LOL

Since it’s been years since you bought the bike AND chances are the dealer didn’t do an actual dyno tune but rather simply loaded a map from Dynojet and called it good.
First indication the bike has NOT been tuned...your gas mileage is in the 30’s. After a good tune it’ll be in the 40’s.
Easy answer is to take it to a qualified, experienced tuner in your area and you will not be disappointed!
