I have a new 2020 Tri Glide Ultra with only a couple thousand miles on it so far. Im in Tucson AZ and will be leaving on a cross country trip to the east coast in a few weeks. Before I go to my dealer I thought Id ask the forum their thoughts. Today and a week ago or so, I went for a 30-50 mile ride (its in the 90s now) and after awhile Ive stopped for about 15 minutes to do whatever and when Ive gotten back on, the bike wont start. All gauges turn
on (so the battery is ok - its garage kept with a trickle charger on) but when I hit the starter button, nothing. Its not even trying to turn over. The ignition is on. I dont have the kill switch on and I have my foot on the brake and the clutch in (whether in neutral or in gear - Ive tried both), but nothing happens. After a few minutes and several tries, all with no response, the bike finally starts and then runs fine. Ive never had any other times when it didnt start normally. Just these two times (so far). I doubt its the heat. Im 70 years old and have had lots of motorcycles in brutally hot and cold weather and never experienced this. I dont need the hassle of the bike dying in the middle of nowhere on my trip (or anywhere else of course). Im not a mechanic. Anyone have any idea what could cause this.
Thanks. I called my service guy and he also suggested I replace the fob battery before bringing it in (I only got one fob - did Harley used to give two? If so it figures. Gone the way of the toolkit and the annual HOG atlas). Anyway he said that even though the lights all come on, the fob could actually be killing the power to the start switch. Thats encouraging!!
