PowerVision And Hot Starter KickBack mystery solved
Been chasing down some starter kick back issues for the last couple months. I had factory ACRs installed last year and they worked great up until about two months ago. When I went to a PowerVision. The bike was kicking back especially when hot like I didnt have them. But I could hear them click every-time I turned the ignition on. And I know the sound seeing as the ACRs are a new feature to me on a bike Ive had for 10 years. The DynoJet map and the Quicktune feature both were showing ACRs were active.
DynoJet kept sending me new maps thinking it was a cranking fuel issue. Actually ended up with new plugs and then bought a new battery and no difference. Figured it was time for a new Starter. Finally yesterday I did a compression test and got 220psi front and rear. Obviously the ACRs were not working. Being as the ACRs are brand new and both not working I assumed it wasnt a mechanical problem.
So on a hunch I opened up Quicktune and actually turned the ACRs off (unchecked the box). And they now work! Bike started multiple times with no issues, actually takes a couple turns of the starter to build pressure. Today I did a compression test and got about 120psi front and 150psi rear. Not worried about the psi variance seeing as I already did a test with them off and they matched, must be a slight difference in the ACRs.
So my guess is the ACRs clicking sound is the same wether they are popping open or closing. And the Quicktune feature in my case is like an upside down light switch, up is off and down is on. Its been posted on here before, if your having hard starts better do a compression check, only way to make sure the ACRs are working. Especially when messing with Quicktune, might end up flashing something to your ecm you didnt intend to.
Turning on ignition should not activate ACR's. They are activated by the starter button.
I dont disagree but a signal of some kind gets sent to the ACRs from turning the ignition on. Even with the ACRs off. Not only can you hear the click you can actually feel it by shoving your finger under the valve covers and actually touching the ACRs. Thats why I assumed they were working. Cant imagine they are that high tech of a device.
